Dawn Angelique Richard. The name of the beautiful, talented, and sweet New Orleans native. She comes from a natural friendly family, which is no surprise to how well she treats everyone in this world. After years of having contact with Dawn and having her support on her first and only fansite: Dawn-Richard.Net (which Dawn refers to as DRNET) I was definitely excited when her amazing brother Frank and Dawn herself helped organize an interview and short get together after Danity Kane's performance at the Making the Band 4 Tour stop in Baltimore, Maryland at Pier Six Pavilion.
In this interview, Dawn gives fans answers to questions about her. She reveals her absolute love of being a member of Danity Kane, she describes how she wrote her fan-favorite track "Lights Out", and she might even make Shannon blush. Dawn also tells us about something that she is planning to release VERY soon that I myself am excited for. Keri Hilson fans - this will not disappoint. This is an interview for people to get to know Dawn Richard. I hope you enjoy this interview and I want to thank once again Dawn's brother Frank and the amazingly humble and sweet Dawn Richard herself. DRNet: So, how have you been since the 'Dollhouse' Release?

Dawn: I mean, madness. It's crazy, we're just coming from outside our show and it's...it's weird to have people scream your name like, I'm a dork, so it's kind of weird for people to scream your name. [Dawn talks to Debo] Back to work - Umm...it's an amazing ride right now. I think it's the best I've ever felt for our album cause we wrote it. So it's like our baby, so it's good to see people singing the songs that you wrote. You know what I mean? That you love and that you create so.

DRNet: Do you still have any goals for the album?

Dawn: Huh?! Hell yeah! Grammys upon Grammys, double platinum, triple platinum - DIAMOND! You know whatever, you know like - I mean way way more international, be huge over seas and sell more albums later.

DRNet: About international - all our fans are asking like, what's going on with the promo?

Dawn: It's soon. What happens is when your single hits Top 10, that's when the buzz starts happening overseas. If it isn't in the Top 10 or even #1 or in the Top 5 they don't really mess with it or they don't put promo into it because they don't know if it'll succeed. That's why you see the #1's like Madonna's and Justin Timberlake, Usher - they go into the International cause they were #1 on the charts here. So the fans gotta make Damaged #1 so that International picks it up and then we go there and make it big over there.

DRNet: So VOTE!

Dawn: VOTE!

DRNet: And REQUEST!

Dawn: And REQUEST! Please!

DRNet: So Bad Girl's the next single?

Dawn: YES! Missy Elliott will be on it and we're really excited. Umm we just wanted a high energy song. We want it to just put dance so far out [in] people's faces. It just like, creates so much energy that people just want to get excited about these records and, you know, hopefully we got more to come. But, Bad Girl is the next single. Missy...hope that she's on it!...and it's gonna be a lot of spankings and blindfolds and all that kind of stuff.

DRNet: Have you shot the video yet?

Dawn: Not yet - but we are thinking leather pretty much.

DRNet: How did you come up with Lights Out?

Dawn: Good qustion. I really was writing - I wanted to write a song for Danity Kane. I had been writing way before this and been doing different types of songs but I really - I was trying to think of what, what 'Danity Kane' was as a song. What each girl's personality would be and when I wrote it it just kind of clicked like - Aubrey's the girl out the gate, you know like: "I'm so hot, when I walk I leave smoke on my tracks." You know, people don't think Shannon is all that but I just had her think in her head like: "Mama gon make you an addict." and - I just had this idea of how everyone thinks they know who we are as women. But they have no idea - they think Shannon is so conservative but underneath it...we don't know what her and her husband - you know, we don't know that side of her and you know, people think they know the whole story. They may think Aubrey's the bad girl when in actuality I'm the bad girl. You know what I mean? So that's why I was like thinking it'd be great to create something that people thought you know they knew, but they have no idea, you know?

DRNet: Did you write it while the recording process was going on?

Dawn: On our hiatus I wrote it. Yeah, yeah. I had been talking to Drea and we were really kinda getting...writing together and I was trying to get a feel for everybody's sound. I was really trying to study who we were and really you know, get on top of it, and I got lucky and...you know, I just - it was the perfect fit for us.

DRNet: Were you glad and surprised at the success of it on itunes?

Dawn: CRAZY! It was on BILLBOARD! I was like Dude...I had no idea - I was crazy when we just performed it and people were singing it and I was like "That's my song dude!" I was really excited like, it's exciting, it's I hope that all the girls can feel that and know what that's like.

DRNet: Yeah. How would you describe all 5 of you in one word like seperately?

Dawn: That's hard. There's - you can't. Not Danity Kane. There's so many words and so many different personalities and any given day it can change that I just have to say I can say "Out the Box." That's Danity Kane. "Outside the Box."

DRNet: Do you have any pre-show rituals?

Dawn: Prayer! Lots and lots of prayer and stretching...and food.

DRNet: Who or what inspired you to sing?

Dawn: You know what? I...my father's a singer so like I - it just was...I just remember being born and hearing it like, I used to sleep underneath the piano and my father used to play and my mom danced. I just like, I remember waking up in tights and like you know like my dad sang. I didn't know like it was just there like it wasn't like - they didn't push me into it. It was just always around so I just...it was there all along. And I don't remember not having it around me.

DRNet: What got you interested in Anime?

Dawn: Yo! High school! I had the best art teacher. I used to draw a lot and I didn't realize I was good until people were telling me "Yo, you draw really good." and I was gonna go to College for it but I had so many options and I chose music but I just - it's so funny how I wound up putting the 2 together. And I have a comic book that is coming out! I'm so excited! I'm so amped! It'll be the 1st show in Comic Con in San Diego.

DRNet: [About Comic Con] Really?!

Dawn: Yes! I'm so excited!

DRNet: Can you share anything about the comic?

Dawn: It's amazing! I can tell you that. Umm...the website'll be up in like the next 2 weeks. It's crazy! It's Damaged it's Danity Kane. And there's a lot of like, back story with it, it's...it's amazing. I - you gotta wait till we launch it with MTV and everything. It's gonna be great. I'm so excited! I worked really hard for it.

DRNet: So will DRNet get the skinny?

Dawn: Ya'll will get - ya'll will know before everyone else! Come on now!

DRNet: Who are your favorite artists?

Dawn: Ah, that's hard. Prince, Michael Jackson, Björk! Umm...Biff Naked, No Doubt, The Cranberries, Bush. Like, I'm just all around, I'm everywhere like, I just...I grew up on Rock. Which is - people don't really know but I love Alternative Music and...I kinda fell into R&B and Hip-Hop later.

DRNet: I don't know if you remember this but - back in 2005 before they showed the season finale of Making the Band [3], you and Aubrey did chats on your boards and everybody asked "Did you make the band?" and you guys said "We don't know, we did different endings." Did you really do different endings?

Dawn: Yeah we did. We did like 4 different ones, yeah. Puff does it though - that's Puff.

DRNet: So you had to wait to find out?

Dawn: Yeah.

DRNet: You did?

Dawn: Yeah. We had an idea though. We had an idea but we didn't really know.

DRNet: What's currently on your iPod? Like in heavy rotation?

Dawn: Yo! Estelle...love her! Love her! She's amazing. And I was listening to the new Usher album. And...my favorite by far - she is the dopest person, I love her so much, Keri Hilson: "Energy". She is amazing! I think people are sleeping on her! And I worked with her before and we had such great energy - I love her.

DRNet: You worked with her?

Dawn: She wrote "Right Now"

DRNet: Oh yeah, I forgot!

Dawn: Yeah, she's amazing.

DRNet: What's your biggest pet peeve?

Dawn: [thinking...] Uh...laziness.

DRNet: And...who's your favorite designer or [clothing] brand?

Dawn: Oh that's a good one. Umm...I love Alexander McQueen, just because I love the Victorian look - I love it. I think it's just hot I think it's just always outside the box I love them. Heatherette is amazing. Love Richie Rich...he's, he's amazing. And umm...Dior! I like the classiness of Dior. And umm...Balenciaga! The shoes!

Dawn's Makeup Artist: And you love L.A.M.B.

Dawn: And L.A.M.B.! I DO love L.A.M.B.! I love Gwen! I have like a purse...

Dawn's Makeup Artist: And Betsey

Dawn: Betsey Johnson! Yeah you right! You know! L.A.M.B. UH! Love L.A.M.B. if I could just walk in one of her shows. I love it.

DRNet: Okay well, thank you Dawn so much!

Dawn: Love you Nick!

DRNet: Thank You!

Dawn: Anytime for you guys! [To fans] Love You!
